Authors must follow these instructions carefully to avoid delays in submission, peer-review and publication processes.
Authors should submit manuscripts online by using Online Submission System. Manuscripts, which are not submitted using the Online Submission System, will not be considered for publication.
The Journal accepts submissions in English or Turkish. The Journal constitutes original articles including theoretical papers, original research papers, applied studies related to professional practices and educational works; viewpoints and book reviews. Translations of other authors' works are not accepted.
Submitted articles should be based on a research and adopt a critical approach to the development of arguments on a wide range of subjects related with city and regional planning. Submitted viewpoints or book reviews should be selected from contemporary discussions or books which have significant contributions to city and regional planning and urban design subjects. Book reviews are encouraged to be more than a summary of the book, but a critical evaluation of the book in theoretical and applied perspectives.
Submitted manuscript should be original, has not been formally published elsewhere and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; and does not infringe any existing copyright or any other third party rights.
Title of the article, abstract, keywords and information of author(s) are submitted directly through the Online Submission System. The main body of the article including text, tables and figures, acknowledgement (if any) and references should be uploaded to the system in one single Word document.2.1. Title
All articles must contain a concise and informative title both in Turkish and English.2.2. Abstract
All articles should have a concise and informative abstract written in English and Turkish. For author(s) whose native language is not Turkish translation or proof-reading would be provided by the Editorial Board, if required. Abstract must not exceed 300 words in length, must summarize the purpose, methods and major findings of the article.2.3. Keywords
The article must have minimum 3 and maximum 5 keywords both in Turkish and English, which must be separated by comma and ordered according to importance. Keywords must be carefully selected to facilitate the readers' search.2.4. Main Body
Main body of the article must have minimum 4.000 words and must not exceed 10.000 words. The text must be typed in 1.5 spacing by using Arial font with 12 pts. Page margins must be set as 3 cm from each sides. All headings must be numbered consecutively and hierarchically. Within the article, footnotes could be used if necessary and they should be labelled by numbers and listed at the end of the page where they occur.
Authors, for whose English is not the native language, are strongly encouraged to have their articles carefully edited prior to the submission. Also, authors are recommended to perform spell checking of the text in Turkish or in English.
For blind-review process, the Word document uploaded to the System should not include any information related with name(s) or institution(s) of author(s). Also the name of the document should not contain any information about the author(s).
The Word document uploaded to the Online Submission System must not exceed 20 MB.2.5. Preparation of Tables and Figures
Tables and figures must be embedded in the article in their original places. Figures and tables must be indicated within the text in brackets.
Tables and figures must be consecutively numbered throughout the article and must have a brief informative caption and reference, if there. The caption must be provided before the table and written in "Table 1. Name of the table" format. If necessary, explanatory footnotes must be brief, placed beneath the table and indicated by (*). Figures must be named as "Figure 1. Name of the figure" format and the caption must be provided under the figure. Figures could be in greyscale, in black-and-white or colour. Figures should be uploaded separately to the Online Submission System in 300 dpi jpeg format.2.6. Quotations
Author(s) should pay attention to keep the number of direct quotations at minimum. Quotations not exceeding 2 lines should be written within the text in quotation marks. If necessary, longer quotations should be written as a new paragraph and typed single-spaced with a font size of 10 pt, and marked with an indentation of 1 cm from left margin of the text. Original source has to be cited at the end of each quotation.2.7. Symbols, abbreviations and conventions
Symbols, abbreviations and conventions in papers must follow the recommended SI Units. Abbreviations must be defined in brackets after their first mention in the text in accordance with internationally agreed rules.2.8. Mathematical expressions
Mathematical symbols and formulae must be typed and any other application or program must not be used. Particular care must be exercised in identifying all symbols and avoiding ambiguities. Distinction must be made between the number one (1) and letter (I) and between the number (0) and the letter (O). Equation numbers must appear in parentheses and numbered consecutively. All equation numbers must appear on the right hand side of the equation and must be referred to within the text.2.9. Acknowledgement
If necessary, acknowledgements can be provided at the end of the text as a separate section.
For blind-review process, the Acknowledgement should not include any information related with name(s) or institution(s) of author(s). In case of inclusion, the Acknowledgement section could be uploaded as a seperate document to the System to be inserted into the main text after peer-review process.2.10. References
The style and punctuation of the references must follow the Chicago Manual of Style. According to the author-date system,
references in the article must give the surname of the author, the year of publication and page number, if given, in brackets. The references must be listed in alphabetical order of authors' names and in chronological order for each author. The upper and lower case rules and punctuation types of the
Viewpoints must no exceed 5.000 words and should be prepared by following the guidance of article preparation as defined in the section "2. Preparation of the Articles".
A book review must be between 1.000-3.000 words and indicates the scope for an assessment of the book and its contribution to knowledge and discussion within the broad field of city and regional planning or urban design.
Book reviews must be typed in 1.5 spacing by using Arial font with 12 points. All pages must be numbered consecutively in the bottom right-side of the page. The title of the book review should be the title of the book reviewed. On top of the review text, book information, including the name of the author(s), origin, publisher, date, number of pages and ISBN number must be provided as in the following example. An image of the book cover must be uploaded to the Online Submission System in 300 dpi jpeg format.

All submissions are subject to investigation in terms of plagiarism and / or unethical situations by the editorial office. All manuscripts are checked with Plagiarism Detection Service iThenticate. Authors are responsible about the content of the manuscripts. Editorial Board claims no responsibility for the opinions expressed in the published manuscripts. It is the author(s) responsibility to obtain written permission from authors and publishers of any previously published material; text, tables, figures, etc.
The Editorial Board is the first to see the submitted manuscript. Being subject to initial appraisal by Editorial Board and if found suitable for further consideration; submitted articles run through peer review process. Viewpoints and book reviews are evaluated by the Editorial Board without peer-review process.
Editorial Board may sometimes reject manuscripts without peer review process to make the best use of their resources.
Review process takes approsimately 60 days. This period covers the first review round, and it may prolong if reviewers ask for major revisions. Referees are chosen by the Editorial Board. Author(s) may also suggest up to three referee names and contacts while submitting the manuscript.
The Journal masks the identities of both the author(s) and referees and operates double blind process for articles. Submitted articles are reviewed by two referees before publication. Following the peer review process, Editorial Board looks over the referees' comments. If two referees seem to hold opposite opinions, the controversy is resolved by Editorial Board. Editorial Board may assign a third referee to resolve the controversy, or Editorial Board may give the final decision. There exist four possible outcomes for each manuscript submitted and reviewed: acceptance, acceptance after minor revision, major revision and re-submission, or rejection.
Manuscripts asked for major revision should be resubmitted within 15 days. Author(s) should consider the views of referees and editorial board. It is recommended to author(s) to submit short explanatory note about revisions and responses.
The submission of manuscripts to the Journal must be approved by all authors who acknowledge that the copyright is transferred to Head of the Department of City and Regional Planning, Mersin University if the manuscript is accepted for publication, and the article cannot be published elsewhere in the same or any other language without consent. The Journal requires the author(s) to sign the Copyright Transfer Form and upload to the System while submitting the manuscript.
All manuscripts published in the Journal are licensed by Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0). It is free to use, share and distribute the content for non-commercial purposes by citing the manuscript.
All manuscripts are given DOI number once they are accepted. Manuscripts to be published in following issues appear Ahead of e-Print. Ahead of e-print articles are fully citable using the DOI system.
There is no submission and page fee for the Journal. The Journal does not charge any article submission, article-editorial processing or publication charges. No charges are asked for review processes or DOI numbers. All submission, editorial and publication processes are conducted free of charge.
